Meet our Trainer!
Benjamin Frederick
was born in Birmingham, Alabama and raised in a dog obedience training school that housed 75+ dogs at a time (Ralph Gibson's World of Dogs, owned and operated by stepfather and dog trainer Ralph Gibson Jr.) Benjamin has trained dogs and taught people how to connect with their canine companions his entire life. He developed a dog training program at the Greater Birmingham Humane Society in 2009 called The Educated Dog Program and spent 3 years training the staff and volunteers how to properly handle dogs with a wide range behavior issues stemming from neglect and abuse. The main goal of the dog training program was to educate adopters on how to introduce their newly adopted dog into their home the best way possible so that the dog wasn't returned to the shelter. The program was a huge success as the percentage of dogs returned to the shelter between 2009-2012 was far lower than years prior.
In 2013 Benjamin took the Educated Dog Program into the homes of Birmingham, AL families with in-home lessons and training. His favorite part of working with a family and their dogs is witnessing the moment that it "clicks" between dog and owner. In 2022 The Educated Dog Program became what it is today, Zen Dog Training Dojo, with Benjamin Frederick becoming Birmingham's one and only dog training sensei.
